Powwow Etiquette
The following are just a couple of points that will help you navigating
around a powwow.
- Please listen to the Master of Ceremonies.
- Please watch for reserved area for the dancers and elders.
- Please stand (and remove your hat, unless it is traditional headgear) during the Grand Entry, Invocation, Flag Songs, Veteran Songs, and the Closing Song.
- Always get permission in advance from the Arena Director and the person you want to tape or photograph.
- Photography is strictly prohibited during Grand Entry, memorial dances, and special occasions announced by the Master of Ceremonies.
- Dancing is encouraged during all Intertribal Dances.
- Please do not enter the dance arena unless you are joining a dance.
- Please do not carry children into the arena (unless they are too young to walk). They should dance on their own since we all walk our own paths in life.
- Please do not touch anyone's dance regalia without their permission.
- Use of alcohol and/or drugs is strictly prohibited.
