Dear Members of the Society for the Advancement of Management at Northern Illinois University,

On the behalf of the Virginia Tech chapter of Phi Beta Lambda, a small business-oriented student group much like your own, please accept our sincerest condolences in regards to the tragedy that occurred on your campus this past week.  Having gone through a similar trying time ourselves, we understand not only the immense pain that follows such a horrific event but also the difference made by a few simple notes and well-wishes from sister organizations at other universities.

Last Thursday began like any other day.  By the end of the afternoon, however, students at Tech gathered around television sets in dorm rooms and apartments in shock as the events at NIU unfolded.  The images of ambulances, police cars and media trucks on your campus brought the same immediate thought to mind for everyone watching, “This can’t be happening again.”  Words cannot express the heartbroken feeling many of us had as we realized that the same terror that gripped our campus was now facing yet another American university.

While we realize that cards, letters, and kind words alone can never truly take the pain away, please know that we are all thinking about you and that we’re here for you guys whenever you need us.  As a university, as a student organization, and simply as fellow college students who know the unspeakable pain of losing close friends and classmates, we know how you feel and we want to help.  The hurt doesn’t go away quickly but neither will those of us who are here to support you.

NIU is a strong university.  The Hokies know the Huskies will Prevail.

Sincerely,

Ryan S. Lilly, Chapter Reporter
& Executive Club Officers of Phi  Beta Lambda at Virginia Tech
